On the occasion of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Indian Constitution and 129th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the Chief Architect of the Indian Constitution, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Colombo, is pleased to announce an Essay Writing competition. The details of the competition are given herewith.

(i) Topics: Participants can write on any one of the following topics:

  1. Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Buddhism, and the Indian Constitution
  2. Duties of a Citizen under the Indian Constitution


(ii) Terms and Conditions:

  • Age limit: 25 years or below as of 1st December, 2019.
  • Language: Participants can write either in English, Sinhala, Tamil or Hindi language
  • Word Limit: 2000 Maximum words including footnotes.
  • Criteria of Evaluation:

o   Originality of the content

o   Creativity and Rationality

o   Style and Presentation of content

o   Clarity and proper citations

o   Plagiarism can lead to outright rejection of submission

(iii) Registration and Submission:

  • There is no registration fee for this essay competition.
  • Participants should submit their essay along with a copy of their national ID card on or before 24th January, 2020 via email to .

(iv) Prizes for winning entries include:

  1. First Prize: LKR 20,000
  2. Second Prize: LKR 15,000
  3. Third Prize: LKR 10,000
